PlayStation VR on Computers! Sony considers PC availability

PlayStation VR and Computer Gaming

PC gamers rejoice – PlayStation VR might be coming to you soon! The low price of $399/399€ for the PlayStation VR turns Sony’s Virtual Reality headset into one of the more affordable solutions, compared to its competitors. And that being said, it makes a possible PC compatibility even more interesting!

Up until now, only PlayStation 4 owners have been exciting about the upcoming VR goggles by Sony, as many have expected it to be an exclusive device for Sony’s consoles.

But a recent interview with Sony’s Masayasu Ito for Nikkei, a Japanese magazine, revealed, that they are eventually planning to make PSVR available for PC gamers as well!

However, it has also been stated, that “nothing will happen right away”, so don’t get your hopes up for instant availability on the launch date. The highest priority will remain to the support for Sony’s own console, the PlayStation 4, at least for now.

Getting the PlayStation VR ready for computer gaming does not seem to be an easy task, as support must also be provided for the PlayStation camera and PlayStation Move controllers.

Ito continued:

Since Playstation 4 shares a lot of its internals with PCs, the possibility is there. At the moment we are focused on games and we are not ready to make any announcements at this stage, but I’d say there will be an expansion into various fields.

Apparently Sony is looking for more possibilities and ways to expand its virtual reality headset and its fan base – providing support for PlayStation VR PC gaming and non-gaming computer usage is just the beginning.

Will we start to see more virtual reality use cases for the Playstation VR in the future? We think so!
